Audi Engine Service & Repair

We diagnose and repair Audi engines for every symptom: oil consumption, carbon buildup on the intake valves, a worn timing chain tensioner, spark plugs and coils, and the high-pressure fuel pump — with VCDS diagnostics and a written warranty.

Audi engine service covers the full inspection and repair of an Audi's engine assembly: oil consumption, carbon buildup, timing chain tensioner wear, and the fuel injection and ignition systems.

Most Audi engines in the Saudi market come from the four-cylinder TFSI EA888 family, or the supercharged 3.0 TFSI V6 fitted to larger models such as the A6, A7 and Q7.

Each family has its own known faults: early EA888 generations burn oil and build up carbon on the intake valves because of direct injection, and both need regular VCDS diagnostics to catch a fault code before it grows into a bigger repair.

When does your Audi need engine service?

Your engine needs attention when oil consumption between services is abnormal, you hear a rattle on cold start, feel vibration while driving, notice weak acceleration, or the check-engine light comes on — each symptom points to a specific cause that a computer scan identifies.

Oil consumption above 1 litre per 1,000 km
Worn piston rings (common on first- and second-generation EA888)
Rattle on cold start that fades away
Weak timing chain tensioner — more likely past 150,000 km
Misfire and poor acceleration
Worn spark plugs or coils, or carbon buildup on the intake valves
Loss of power under hard acceleration
Failing high-pressure fuel pump (HPFP) — a code in the P0087/P0299 family
Check-engine light with vibration while driving
An EGR valve or MAF sensor fault that needs immediate inspection
٠٢

What does Audi engine service include?

The service includes a full computer scan, oil pressure and consumption measurement, a timing chain and tensioner check, carbon cleaning on the intake valves, a spark plug and coil inspection or replacement, and a check of the high-pressure fuel pump and EGR valve.

Full computer scan
Reads every code on the engine control unit (Unit 01) plus live measured values
Oil pressure and consumption
Measured with a gauge and cross-checked against the car's consumption history
Timing chain and tensioner
Visual and audible inspection, with the tensioner replaced before the chain stretches
Intake valves
Carbon removed with walnut blasting, without fully removing the cylinder head
Spark plugs and coils
Each plug tested individually — only the worn ones are replaced
HPFP and EGR valve
Fuel pressure test and exhaust gas recirculation check

What is the TFSI and EA888 engine system in Audi cars?

TFSI is Audi's turbocharged direct-injection system, and EA888 is the four-cylinder engine family found across most of the A3, A4, A5, Q3 and Q5 range; larger models such as the A6, A7 and Q7 carry a supercharged 3.0 TFSI V6 instead of a turbo.

The EA888 has gone through three generations: the first generation (2008–2010) burns oil due to poorly designed piston rings, the second generation (2011–2013) improved the rings somewhat but consumption can still appear in advanced cases, and the third generation (2014 onward) is markedly more stable on oil consumption.

Because direct injection sprays fuel straight into the cylinder, it never washes over the intake valves, so carbon builds up on them over time and causes misfires and weak acceleration; the fix is walnut blasting every 80,000–100,000 km without removing the cylinder head.

The pre-update timing chain tensioner weakens past 150,000 km and causes a rattle on cold start; ignoring it lets the chain jump timing and damages the valves, which is why we check it at every major service.

The high-pressure fuel pump (HPFP) weakens with age and throws a code in the P0087 or P0299 family along with a noticeable loss of power, and the EGR valve clogs with carbon, disrupting the exhaust recirculation ratio and triggering the check-engine light.

Oil consumption
Gen1/2 piston rings (2009–2011) — up to 1 litre per 1,000 km in advanced cases
Timing chain and tensioner
The pre-update tensioner weakens past 150,000 km — rattles on cold start
Carbon on intake valves
Builds up from direct injection — cleared with walnut blasting every 80,000–100,000 km
Spark plugs and coils
Plugs every 40,000 km; coils wear out after 60,000–80,000 km from engine bay heat
Engine oil
5W-40 to VW 502.00 spec, capacity around 4.6 litres
HPFP
Noticeable power loss with a code in the P0087 or P0299 family when it fails
V6 3.0 TFSI (A6/A7/Q7)
Mechanical supercharger instead of a turbo — spark plugs every 80,000 km

How do we repair an Audi engine?

We start by reading the engine control unit codes with VCDS, then run a road test and measure oil pressure, followed by a written cost report before any disassembly — after the repair we calibrate the values and re-run the road test before handover.

  1. Read the codes

Scan the engine control unit (Unit 01) with VCDS/ODIS and document the codes and live values.

  2. Diagnostic road test

Measure performance, oil consumption and temperature under real driving conditions.

  3. Written report and quote

Pinpoint the exact cause — oil, carbon, tensioner, or fuel pump — with clear pricing before any work starts.

  4. Repair

Carry out the work with genuine or approved parts, with photos of each stage on request.

  5. Calibration and coding

Calibrate the injection and ignition timing and clear codes with VCDS/ODIS.

  6. Handover test

A final road test with you, followed by a 12-month written warranty on parts and labour.

What parts do we use to repair an Audi engine?

We use NGK or Bosch spark plugs, genuine ignition coils, a timing chain and tensioner in the original size, and a high-pressure fuel pump and EGR components from original suppliers — every part is matched to the chassis number before fitting and covered by the written warranty.

Spark plugs
NGK / Bosch to the engine's original specification
Ignition coil
Genuine or OEM — replaced individually when faulty, not as a full set
Timing chain and tensioner
Complete kit in the original size with timing gears
High-pressure fuel pump (HPFP)
Genuine or approved, under warranty
EGR valve
Genuine replacement or cleaning, depending on its condition after inspection
Engine oil
5W-40 to VW 502.00 spec with a genuine oil filter
٠٦

Does Audi engine repair differ by model?

Yes; the A4 and Q5 with the four-cylinder EA888 need regular checks for oil consumption and carbon buildup, while the A6 and Q7 with the 3.0 TFSI V6 run a longer spark-plug service interval and rely on a supercharger rather than a turbo — each model has its own full service page.

FAQ
How much oil does an Audi engine normally consume?
Normal consumption is under half a litre between two full services (20,000 km). First- and second-generation EA888 engines can reach 1 litre per 1,000 km in advanced cases, which calls for an immediate ring inspection.
Is cleaning carbon off the intake valves necessary?
Yes for direct-injection engines like the EA888. Carbon builds up because fuel never washes over the valves, causing misfires and weak acceleration after 80,000–100,000 km if it isn't cleared with walnut blasting.
Can ignoring a timing chain tensioner rattle destroy the whole engine?
Yes, it can go that far. A weak tensioner lets the chain jump off its timing, so the valves strike the pistons and the head needs a full teardown. An early check past 150,000 km prevents this scenario.
How much does fixing oil consumption in an Audi engine cost?
It starts from SAR 400 for a PCV valve clean if the cause is simple, and reaches SAR 7,000 when piston rings need replacing. A computer scan and pressure test identify the cause before any final price.
Does the inspection always start with a computer scan before opening the engine?
Yes, in every case. A VCDS scan reads the engine control unit codes and live measured values, pinpointing the exact cause before any disassembly and avoiding unnecessary extra cost.
Do you repair 3.0 TFSI V6 engines in the A6 and Q7?
Yes, we repair the supercharged 3.0 TFSI V6 the same way: computer scan, oil and fuel pressure measurement, and a spark plug check every 80,000 km — with genuine parts and a written warranty.
